Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using Middl ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App. These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Middl.
Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to use Middl. By using the App, you represent and warrant that you are 18 years of age or older. We verify age during account creation and reserve the right to terminate accounts that violate this requirement.
Description of Service
Middl is an AI-powered communication support application that helps users facilitate difficult conversations. The App provides:
- Live mediation sessions facilitated by Aria, an AI system
- Solo reflection sessions ("Reflect with Aria")
- Conversation reframing assistance ("Help Me Say This")
- Private journaling ("Open Journal")
- Insights and communication pattern awareness
Middl is not a substitute for professional mental health care. Aria is an AI, not a licensed therapist, marriage counselor, or mental health professional. The service is intended as a communication support tool only.
Account Registration
To use Middl, you must create an account. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and to update such information to keep it accurate, current, and complete. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
You may not create an account on behalf of another person, impersonate any person or entity, or use a false identity. You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.
Acceptable Use
You agree to use Middl only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to:
- Use the App in any way that violates applicable law or regulation
- Use Middl in situations involving ongoing domestic violence or abuse without seeking appropriate professional help
- Attempt to circumvent or manipulate Aria's safety systems
- Use the App to harass, threaten, or harm any person
- Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or extract the App's source code
- Use automated tools or bots to access the service
- Share your account with others or allow others to use your session
- Use the App to collect information about other users without their consent
AI and Content Disclaimer
Aria is powered by large language models from third-party providers. By using Middl, you acknowledge and agree that:
- AI-generated content may not always be accurate, appropriate, or complete
- Aria's observations and suggestions are not professional advice
- You should not rely solely on Aria for important relationship decisions
- Aria may occasionally produce unexpected or imperfect outputs
- We do not guarantee that Aria will detect all safety concerns or crisis situations
Your conversations with Aria are processed by third-party AI providers (currently OpenAI and Anthropic, via OpenRouter) and a limited set of other service providers, all as described in our Privacy Policy. By using the service, you consent to this processing.
Not for crises, abuse, or coercion. Middl is not designed for, and must not be used as, a response to a mental-health crisis, ongoing domestic violence or abuse, or any situation involving immediate risk of harm. Middl is also not appropriate when both people are in the same room or using the same device, or when one person is not freely and privately consenting — the per-device safety tools cannot protect you if a session is being watched or coerced. Aria may decline to begin or continue a session, or end it and surface crisis resources, when it detects signs of these situations. If you are in danger or distress, contact local emergency services or call 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) in the US.
Subscription and Payments
Middl offers a free tier and a paid subscription ("Middl Plus"). The free tier includes a limited amount of usage per day and per month; Middl Plus removes or raises those limits. The specific current limits are shown in the App and may change as we tune the product; we will not reduce a paid subscriber's access below what they paid for during their current billing period.
Paid subscriptions are sold through the Apple App Store and managed on our behalf by our subscription provider, RevenueCat. Billing, renewals, and refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's payment terms. Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; you can manage or cancel a subscription in your Apple ID settings.
All fees are non-refundable except as required by law or as provided by Apple's refund policies. We reserve the right to change pricing with reasonable notice.
Privacy
Your use of Middl is subject to our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. By using the App, you consent to the collection and use of information as described in our Privacy Policy.
Termination
You may terminate your account at any time by using the "Delete Account" feature within the App. Upon termination, your data will be deleted as described in our Privacy Policy.
We may suspend or terminate your access to Middl at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice, including for violations of these Terms. We will not be liable to you for any termination of your access.
Disclaimer of Warranties
Middl is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components. We disclaim all warranties, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Middl and its affiliates, officers, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the App.
Our total liability to you for any claims arising from your use of Middl shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $100 if you have not made any payments.
Changes to Terms
We may modify these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the App or by email. Your continued use of Middl after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be resolved in the courts of Texas.
